MIAA pushes back start to Fall athletics

The MIAA is delaying the start to the Fall sports season.

The conference released its plan Monday morning to start practices the week of August 31 and competition will begin the week of September 28.

The changes are due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It shifts what would have been week four of the football season to week one. Northwest Missouri State volleyball is also scheduled to have four matches in the two weeks prior to the new start date. The MIAA did not announce adjustments related directly to game schedules and if those games are eliminated or will be rescheduled.

"This plan allows our student-athletes to get back on campus and get acclimated with the student body before we begin practices and competition," said MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy in a release. "We remain hopeful that the MIAA student-athletes will be able to practice and compete this fall, but we need to be patient and make sure that we are doing that in a healthy and safe environment for our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators."
